Introduction

About the Biedermeier coffee

The term »Biedermeier« comes from the fictional character Gottlieb Biedermaier.

The poet Ludwig Eichrodt and the doctor Adolf Kußmaul published numerous poems under this pseudonym from 1855 onwards, in which he is portrayed as a poetic village teacher and philistine at the same time, »for whom his small room, his narrow garden, his unsightly patch and the meagre lot of a despised village schoolmaster help him to achieve earthly bliss.«

Ingredients

  • 1 small cup of hot, black, very strong coffee
  • 2 cl Biedermeier liqueur
  • Whipped cream

Step by step instructions

For Biedermeier coffee, you need a large cup with double the volume.

Step 1

First pour the coffee into the cup, then the liqueur and finally the whipped cream topping.

Biedermeier liqueur is difficult to find outside Austria. But you can easily make it yourself by mixing egg liqueur with a little apricot extract.
